This tour is a short and gentle hike around some areas of exceptional natural beauty. It takes place along the banks of Voidomatis river, which flows between the steep rocky slopes of the Vikos Gorge. The best time for this hiking tour is during the Summer months so that you enjoy a swim in the cold, refreshing blue waters of the river.
The tour starts and ends in either the port of Corfu or Igoumenitsa, where you will be met by your guide and directed to your transfer. From Corfu you will sail for about 1 hour and 30 minutes to Igoumenita port and from there you will drive to Zagori.
The duration of the hike is around 3 hours covering a distance of around 5 kilometers. The hike steps off on the bridge of Aristi, the entrance of Vikos Gorge.
A wide and well-trodden path will take you into a beautiful plane forest, following the flow of the river. You will start a gentle climb to an area where also findings of human activity dating back to the Paleolithic era have been identified.
The route then continues alongside the river, and you will have plenty of opportunity to admire the beautiful blue-green pools that forms the Voidomatis riverbed. At the end of the track you will come across a cobbled lane that leads you to the Stone Bridge of Klidonia, which is the exit of the gorge.
Here your bus will be waiting for you to take you to a traditional stone village of Monodentri, the most popular of the Zagori villages. From here you will hike along the beautiful path to Agia Paraskevi; a stone-built monastery from the 15th century. Here you will have a breathtaking panoramic view of the steep slopes of the Vikos Gorge. After you’ve enjoyed a delicious traditional lunch you will drive back to the port of Igoumenitsa, and board your ferry back to Corfu, or pick up your transfer to your hotel in Epirus Region.
